Student Employee of the Year Awards winners

Last week, we saw the announcement of the University of Sheffield winners for the Student Employee of the Year Awards in the Student’s Union.  Here at USE, we did really well…

So what awards did we win?

Alex Bobocica won the Best International Employee. USE nominated her because of her outstanding commitment to the USSIP programme and all of the time, effort and hard work that she has put into the scheme to get it implemented.  She also won Best International Student Employee of the Year Award in the North East.

Do you think we are happy?

USE won the Best Employer of the Year Award. This is for our intern programme which it really flexible and allows our interns to enhance their skills. As an intern, you also get the opportunity to develop and deliver your own enterprise projects which make an impact on the university environment.  We also won the Best Student Employer of the Year Award in the North East.

Both USE and Alex are now in the finals of the competition and we will find out on the 18th June if we have won, so watch this space…

This is all very exciting, but what is the Student Employee of the Year Awards?

The Student Employee of the Year Awards (SEOTY)  is national scheme where any student in the UK can be nominated for the best student employee within certain categories (Best On- Campus, Best Off Campus, Best International Student (non-UK).  There is also an award for best student employer. This then gets awarded at a university level, followed by a regional level. Finally, the winner will get crowned at the SETOY awards. You will also win £100/ £200 and a nice trophy or framed certificate. So if you are working part time whilst at University, why not tell your employer and get nominated. This looks great on your CV. Applications open in early February 2013.

(Thanks to Anna Woof for the image, she was there but we all couldn’t be on the photo :-( )
