Good afternoon Sheffield world. My name is Dimitris and I’ve just arrived from Thessaloniki (it is the second biggest city of Hellas for you that are not really good in Geography) as the new intern for the USE. I am currently studying Business in the University of Sheffield City College, the International Faculty of the University.
I am pretty sure that most of you want to travel to Greece or you already have done, so you probably know that in this period of time it is really hot and sunny there so the shock for me was pretty big when I arrived in UK with all this cloudy weather and the cold but I am going to get used to it sooner or later. After this short introduction of myself I think it is time to get back to business!
My friends are calling me adrenaline freak as I have been doing some extreme sports. The most amazing thing though is that never till now I have felt this feeling of freedom (even when I was skydiving) when I arrived in a foreign country where I did not know anyone. I think you might want to hear now what I have to do with innovation. In City College we have the marketing club, which is dealing with projects that are related to creating new ideas and presenting them to your fellow students.
This year I took part in a little competition that the marketing club organized and it was about designing the new t-shirts and hoodies for the College. You may not believe it but you really need to squeeze your mind to create some beautiful and innovative designs that will look nice and attract attention at the same time. My team came third so it was a really good result for us as the whole University voted for their favourite.
In my opinion, innovation comes with inspiration. As long as you have something that inspires you then ideas will always pop out of your mind. Of course, not every idea can become reality, as it may not be feasible to apply but it is always worth sharing your ideas and see what some experts have to say about it (promoting a bit of USE now). So try to be creative and broaden your minds because imagination does not have limits and when the time comes then be sure that someone here at USE will help you put it into practice.
So that’s all for now, I am pretty sure that I am going to have a really good time here and I am going to meet many interesting people!
