Be enterprising… be like Boris?

When thinking about what my next blog would be about I just had this crazy idea that it should be about Boris Johnson because who doesn’t love a bit of Boris’s barmy charm.

I also think he should be Prime Minister but that’s a whole other conversation…

So how does Boris and enterprise fit, well have you ever heard of his elevated bike lanes idea?

Boris and his bikes. Thanks to BackBoris2012.

The idea came to light because of the steep rise in the number of cyclists in London and it is inspired by the railway High Line in New York. The hope is that it will keep transport sustainable for the future, however I am not so convinced as surely the amount of energy required to build them will therefore mean that ‘sustainability’ will not be achieved for a while. Still I think that it is an amazingly bonkers idea. Just think about it, you’re walking through your city no bikes in sight and instead a network of floating roads above your head for all the cyclists to battle it out. Although having just written that it makes me think of how dirty it could be and all the sunlight, the little we have, will be blocked out. Hmm, that is something to consider, it sounded wacky and wonderful to begin with but I am starting to see many flaws, health and safety for starters. Health and safety is already OTT in this country and I am sure they are having a heart attack thinking about cyclists in the sky.

The point of all this is not to be scared to be enterprising even if your idea is unimaginable to some, and may have many initial flaws and hurdles. Flaws can be risk assessed and hurdles jumped over. The most unimaginable thing may just be revolutionary and become the next big thing. Everything was once just an idea, mobile phones, mp3 players, maybe yours will become more.

If you have an idea and don’t know what to do next then come along and speak with someone in the Enterprise Zone, that big orangey-yellow building by St George’s Lecture theatre. We can put you on a group business coaching course and provide you with access to talk with our in house business advisor, Janet. I can assure that we will help you the best we can with the resources we provide. So why not give it a go and take the plunge.
