Have you got an idea that could make a difference to the local community? Or want to learn more about what a social enterprise is? The Lab is back and is ready to inspire you and give you the skills to make your idea happen.
So what is the Lab? The Social Innovation Lab is a series of four seminars where people who want to make a difference to society meet up, exchange ideas and develop concepts. As well as developing knowledge on social enterprise, you will also have the opportunity to develop your skills such as video editing, pitching and commercial awareness. Haven’t got an idea- don’t worry. You will meet people who have ideas as part of the course and work in groups on their ideas.
The Social Innovation Lab has been running since 2011 and has had some great successful businesses that have started up from the Lab. Two of our first Lab students were Ivan and Jekaterina who wanted to regenerate some areas of Sheffield. They have now set up SKINN, a social enterprise business that supports people and businesses in Shalesmoor, Kelham Island and Neepsend. They have also expanded to a core staff of four based in the CADS complex in Shalesmoor.
One student that recently participated in the lab said it was an “excellent opportunity to meet similar student innovators, great thinking environment with plenty of brilliant ideas, very inspiring”
Successful completion of the Lab also counts towards the Sheffield Graduate Award and is HEARable.
