Ok, now you know how bad my music taste is. But you will be please to know that Skill Build is back this semester and promises to give you oodles of commercial awareness skills and basic business knowledge that will help to equip you in any career you decide to go into.
But who are the people behind the lectures? Why do we think they are the best people to help you understand entrepreneurship? Here are some bios of our speakers that will be speaking over the next semester….
In week 3 (26th February), we have a local social enterprise expert, Morgan Killick who will be talking about how a social enterprise differs from a commercial business. Morgan founded ESP Projects Ltd , an IT support social enterprise that went from a spare room to a medium sized enterprise. Whilst developing ESP Projects Ltd, Morgan won the Social Entrepreneur of the Year. Morgan is now a director of Social Enterprise Yorkshire and Humber (SEYH) and delivers the ‘Enterprise and Development’ support at Voluntary Action Sheffield.
When Skill Build is back after Easter (16th April), we have got Claire Taylor, who will be running a session on Networking. Claire is a Management Consultant at Imago Professional Development and is a communications expert. Claire has supported many businesses to develop their communication strategies through a variety of platforms as well as coaching people in a 1-2-1 setting, therefore any networking question that you have, Claire will be able to answer it.
Skill build is back on the 12th February and runs from 6.15-7.30 in St George’s Church. We focus on topics such as how to start a business, marketing and basic business accounting. If you attend five out of the seven sessions and pass an assignment, you will be eligible for the skill build award. This activity can be counted towards HEAR and the Sheffield Graduate Award. For more information and to register, check out the Skill Build Webpage.
