6 September 2016 - 3:08 pm Become a Venture Capital Investor while at University

For students with investment ambitions, Venture Capital can seem like an inaccessible career. Associate positions for recent graduates are rare, making it difficult to gain real work experience in the field.

For students intent on startup life, insight into the minds of VC investors is like the Holy Grail. It’s something that literally can’t be experienced until you start the fundraising experience in your own startup. And then you learn the hard way. 30 April 2015 - 2:37 pm Keep calm… Summer is around the corner

Spring is definitely in the air. We’ve had some beautiful sunny days and it’s got me dreaming of the summer holidays… Continue reading “Keep calm… Summer is around the corner” »

8 April 2015 - 5:51 pm Leadership. Enough Said.

It is an interesting word- leadership. In my head, it conjures images of Lord Alan Sugar, Sir Winston Churchill and Barack Obama. But what do all of these three people have in common- they are all male. In fact, the majority of Managing Directors and Chief Executives across the globe are male and in the UK, under a third of women hold a top job . But what do all of these women have in common which can help them get to the top? Continue reading “Leadership. Enough Said.” »

3 April 2015 - 12:48 pm “I think you need to de-stress…”

If I had a pound every time I thought that or had someone say that to me, I think I would be rich by now. It is also easier said than done. But can changing your attitude make it easier to deal with the big stressful things. Continue reading ““I think you need to de-stress…”” »

21 March 2015 - 2:34 pm Reclaim your Lunch Break

So I am probably the worst person for doing this… I get a little too engrossed in my work and don’t want to stop doing whatever the thing might be… but now is the time to take action, I need to reclaim my lunch hour.

According to this article, only three in 10 people actually take a lunch break even though it is proven to reduce stress in the workplace, help you be more productive and help you maintain a better work/life balance. But if I give myself a task to do in my lunch break, surely this will help me break the vicious cycle of the lack of lunch breaks? Here are a few suggestions to help you maximise your lunch breaks between lectures and revitalise… Continue reading “Reclaim your Lunch Break” »

17 March 2015 - 10:10 am Grab your bucket and run into a beach full of opportunities

At the time of writing this, I am about to leave USE to go onto maternity leave. But as well as spending loads of time with my new born, I have been thinking about making the most of my year by making a bucket list of all the things that I have been wanting to do for ages but because of working full time or just not getting round to it, it just hasn’t happened. 17 February 2015 - 4:50 pm E is for….

If it isn’t one E word (enterprise) that I go on about, it is another one, employability.

We all know that the graduate market is highly competitive and you need to be able to stand out from the crowd. The way I like to describe this is by thinking of a cake: your degree is a great solid base that has got the essential knowledge that you need to do the job (or in a cake sense, you need the sponge to be a cake) but it is the things that you do on top of your degree that makes you more attractive to employers (and for me, the sprinkles, toppings and anything else you can fit on the cake makes it sooo much more attractive). 16 February 2015 - 12:19 pm Top of the Pops

Something BIG has been growing at USE, well almost for the last nine months and it is almost ready for popping… my belly. So this is my last week at USE before I go on maternity leave. How am I feeling? Really excited, scared and sad- this cocktail means that I am liable to cry at any time (well hopefully I am not that bad). Continue reading “Top of the Pops” »

I am so feeling like a 90s reject… That song (Barbie Girl by Aqua), was a nightmare then and is a nightmare now. But now it is stuck in my head and I am sorry if I have got it stuck in yours too. So, why am I so obsessed with Barbies? Well a new Barbie is being launched….Barbie Entrepreneur. Continue reading “Come on Barbie, let’s go party!” »
