Passionate about making a difference and interested in learning more about social enterprise?

Take part in our Social Innovation Lab, a short programme of evening workshops that'll guide you through the development of a socially-driven idea.

Passionate about – or intrigued by – businesses or projects with a social cause? The Social Innovation Lab is the perfect place to start if you’re interested in social enterprise, fancy meeting like-minded world changers, or if you have your own socially-driven idea you’d like to get off the ground.

The Lab is made up of four interactive evening workshops that give you the chance to meet, socialise and work with other students from a wide variety of backgrounds, all sharing an interest in social innovation. Over the four sessions our team will take you from initial concept to business plan, completing a series of challenges along the way.

Ever been speed-dating? Well, here you can – with a bit of a twist. In the first session you’ll be shuffled into groups as you discuss your ideas; those with ideas will share their concept and what they’re hoping to achieve, while participants just interested in social enterprise can chat about what interested them in the first place.

As the programme goes on you’ll work in teams on chosen project ideas, developing storyboards, a pitch and a promotional video. In the final session, you’ll get to present with your team at a fancy celebration event. Oh, and be aware: at the celebration, there will be prizes. There will also be wine.

Remember, you do NOT have to have an idea to take part in the Lab. In the first session, you’ll be teamed up with someone who does, giving you something to work on together for the rest of the programme; so, don’t feel left out if you haven’t quite managed to think of anything just yet. Take a look at our Student Profiles for a better idea of how the Lab could help you.

The Lab is not only a fantastic chance to build your knowledge of social enterprise or develop your idea, but additionally offers the perfect opportunity to work on your presentation, pitching and enterprise skills – brilliant for adding to your CV. Plus, if you start the lab with an idea you can take the resulting business plan onto our Accelerator, and really start to make things happen.

Registration for the Social Innovation Lab will take place on our events page, so keep an eye out for updates on how to take part.  The Lab runs once in each semester.
