Wondering if anyone shares your die-hard enthusiasm for specialist teas? Looking to meet other indie flick superfans?

Joining, starting or running a society is fun, creative, innovative and will look great on your CV, and at USE we can offer your society support.

University is all about getting qualifications, right? Wrong.

Okay, so the academic stuff is obviously a huge part of your time at the University of Sheffield – it’s why you’re here in the first place – but the university ‘experience’ is so much more. There are few other times when you’ll be face-to-face with such a huge wealth of opportunities to build your skills, meet like-minded people and pursue your interests, or even discover new ones.

Societies are a massive part of university life, and a great way not only to find fellow comic book fans, environmental activists and circus trick enthusiasts, but to develop your enterprise skills and gain yet more golden experience to build up your CV. Plus, if you can’t find the society you’re looking for you can even make one yourself.

At USE we can offer loads of support for new and existing societies, whether you’re after funding for a community project, space for a committee meeting or advice and coaching to help you out with running an event. As usual, we’re here to support you with making your ideas happen.

*We do ask that all students familiarise themselves with the joint University of Sheffield and Sheffield Students’ Union ‘Independent Activities’ guidelines and the USE room booking policy before utilising any USE space for external (charity or commercial) events or activities.

Sponsorship

Every year, USE offers five £100 sponsorship grants for societies so that you can make your ideas happen. These are usually distributed in the first semester.

In addition to the funding, you will also have the opportunity to use the enterprise boardroom to have your committee meetings and if you tell us you are coming in, you also get free biscuits!

Any society that fills in the society sponsorship form could also receive ESSA (Enterprising Student Society accreditation). This is an externally recognised award which shows that you are aware of the skills that you have been developing whilst carrying out your societies activities.

Think about it: if you recruit members, raise funds and organise events, you could be enterprising without even knowing it!

Closing date for applications: 29th January 2016 .

If you have any questions about the sponsorship, contact Seetal Jassal s.jassal@sheffield.ac.uk

In addition to funding, USE provides ESSA, ad hoc sessions (delivered through SU or through society), support for sponsorship, project support.
