14 July 2014 - 9:32 am You are not a “future” leader; You are a leader today

A few weeks ago I had a phone call from Comic Relief asking me to support the new programme they were launching to promote young leaders. I said yes of course, though the phone call was quite vague. So, when an email arrived inviting me to the launch of the programme at Buckingham Palace (!!!) I was pretty much gobsmacked. A week or so later, when the invitation arrived in the post it suddenly became very real!  When I finally got over my shock of the royal stamp and the gold lined invitation and actually read it, it said Prince Harry would be in attendance!!! If I could get any more excited, I did, although my excitement was slightly tempered upon the realisation that a surprising amount of my friends didn’t know Harrys formal name was Henry and thought it was another random member of the royal family they hadn’t met… Continue reading “You are not a “future” leader; You are a leader today” »

6 May 2014 - 5:15 pm Students + lecturers + gunge = lives saved

Quite the title, right? Well Rob, now you’ve got to explain how your somewhat strange equation makes any kind of sense. How do you save lives through students, lecturers and gunge?

27 March 2014 - 10:01 am Enactus. What a funny word.

The time has finally come. I’ve been itching to write something about Enactus for so long but thought I should perhaps wait for the right moment. Heaven knows my family and friends are probably sick of the word by now (at least the remaining few friends I have who aren’t in Enactus) so that was another consideration. I’d quite like to keep my family and friends so bludgeoning them over the heads with Enactus 24/7 is something I’ve attempted to refrain from. However, turns out you guys have been typing Enactus in that little search box quite a lot recently so I’ve decided to throw caution to the wind and risk losing my loved ones by serenading writing about Enactus and why it’s just about the best thing since Pepsi Max made their bottles bigger for the same price (my true second love in life: Pepsi). What is Enactus? What do we do? Is it a Harry Potter spell? All good questions, let me explain.  Continue reading “Enactus. What a funny word.” »

18 November 2013 - 10:57 am Stepping forward is a challenge

National Tree Week. World Hello Day. National Freelancers Day (yes, this is a thing). These are all wonderfully barmy things that are being celebrated across our country this month. Amongst the celebrating of trees, terms of endearments and freelancers (still a thing), there’s one week in particular that is actually not at all barmy and one we at USE think is pretty worthy of a spot on our National Calendar. It’s Global Entrepreneurship Week this week, so wheel out the party poppers, Kool & The Gang and the cucumber sandwiches and get celebrating.

5 September 2013 - 10:04 am Popping up a Shop at Spitalfields

Anyone that watched The Apprentice task where the teams were challenged to “smell what sells” and grow an enterprise  from Stall to Shop in 48 hours might have spotted the two teams at the iconic Spitalfields Market. This episode struck a particular cord with me mainly because less than a week earlier I watched a team from Sheffield Enactus trade their handmade cosmetics, that aim to eradicate human trafficking, along with 15 other University teams in Uni PopShop. And even now after years of enterprise experience I still learnt a thing or two.
