It was listening to the women’s voices, scared and terrified, that made me what to join Enactus and get so involved so quickly. Fast forward 11 months and I am now HOPE Local Director, overseeing 7 teams, with a total of 42 people working in HOPE. Continue reading “HOPE nominated for another award!” »

We know that our students are passionate about making a difference in their community and this social enterprise focussed programme enabled them to not only learn about social entrepreneurship but to also devise business concepts in teams and develop potential social enterprise ideas that could actually be realised and make a difference. 29 March 2014 - 10:53 am What about Social Enterprise in China?
To be honest, I had never heard about the term ‘social enterprise’ before I joined USE. My initial idea of it being some sort of charity shops made me just unconcerned (Shame on me..). Well, up till now, social enterprise remains unfamiliar to most of China. So what is it then? A social enterprise is a business with a social mission. Its profits will be principally reinvested in the business for the social objectives that it pursues, rather than distributed to its shareholders. If you were to look around, you would probably notice that social enterprise operates in almost every industry in UK. Well known examples include the Big Issue, Innocent drinks, Fair trade and the Phone co-op. With a focus on serving the community, social enterprise in UK has transformed the welfare system and stimulated local development. Brilliant impacts, sounds good. The next question will be: is this novel business model replicable? If so, what about in the context of China? Continue reading “What about Social Enterprise in China?” »
27 March 2014 - 10:01 am Enactus. What a funny word.
The time has finally come. I’ve been itching to write something about Enactus for so long but thought I should perhaps wait for the right moment. Heaven knows my family and friends are probably sick of the word by now (at least the remaining few friends I have who aren’t in Enactus) so that was another consideration. I’d quite like to keep my family and friends so bludgeoning them over the heads with Enactus 24/7 is something I’ve attempted to refrain from. However, turns out you guys have been typing Enactus in that little search box quite a lot recently so I’ve decided to throw caution to the wind and risk losing my loved ones by
serenading writing about Enactus and why it’s just about the best thing since Pepsi Max made their bottles bigger for the same price (my true second love in life: Pepsi). What is Enactus? What do we do? Is it a Harry Potter spell? All good questions, let me explain. Continue reading “Enactus. What a funny word.” »
