23 June 2015 - 11:26 am End of an era…..or maybe just for a year!
Hi all! Sorry if you haven’t heard from me in a while. So, today is my last shift at USE. It’s been a year!! It doesn’t seem too long ago when I joined in September last year. This place seems the same, but I feel a lot more comfortable now than I did in September.
Although it all seems the same, everything has changed (more or less). I remember when I first started working, I came in a day before to ask advice for my first day. I wasn’t scared (maybe a little) before starting the job but Liz (my previous manager) was a great support and supported me through my first day (and every other day after that).
13 May 2015 - 2:20 pm Developing my professional skills
I was allocated by the Taste of Work team for a four hour work internship as a receptionist at the University of Sheffield Enterprise (USE). As a chemist, it feels unusual to work outside of the laboratory as it requires communicating with humans instead of chemicals. Continue reading “Developing my professional skills” »
10 May 2015 - 2:13 pm A Taste of USE
This is my first blog about the USE. I am very fortunate that I have been given the opportunity to do a “Taste of Work” at USE. During this time I understood more about what extra things USE do and their current Evolve Competition, as well as finally getting the chance to see what USE looks like. Continue reading “A Taste of USE” »
8 May 2015 - 1:46 pm Taste of Work Adventure
Hope I do not bore you, I am gonna tell you my Taste of Work experience in USE. Well, to be honest, I hesitated a little when I first applied this session. But then I thought “why should I let go of this opportunity?” So I decided to give it a go. And it turned out to be great after all. Continue reading “Taste of Work Adventure” »
18 December 2014 - 10:49 am Think Like an Entrepreneur
I spent a lovely Tuesday morning at the USE as part of the “Taste of Work” scheme. I was extremely happy when I received the email from the “Taste of Work Team” telling me that I will be working at the USE.
A tale about myself: My name is Baiju Shah, currently in my first year studying a Bsc. in Economics. I come from the beautiful country Kenya, which is famous for its runners, amazing wildlife and scenery, as well as the warm hearts of all the citizens. Apart from that, it is also a country known for its innovation and the emerging market. There is tremendous innovation that goes in Kenya, one of the most famous tech innovations in the world is known as “MPESA” which is the way most Kenyans transfer money from one another without necessarily owning a bank account or debit card, just their mobile phones! 5 November 2014 - 5:05 pm A Taste of Work Experience
Hi! Or, as we say in Kenya, jambo! I’d like to tell you about my taste of work experience at the Enterprise Zone.
Taste of Work is a scheme by the University of Sheffield to provide people (like me) who haven’t had any part time jobs before, with a taste of what a part time role would entail. Continue reading “A Taste of Work Experience” »
15 March 2014 - 10:58 am Taste of Work: Razvan Florea
I applied for the Taste of Work program because I really wanted to see how people get along in a British company, how they work, how they talk to each other, and finally how they help each other. Ultimately, I wanted to get a “taste” of what working in a real company is like. Continue reading “Taste of Work: Razvan Florea” »
14 November 2013 - 10:05 am Sofia’s Taste of Work at USE
I applied for the Taste of Work program because I have never worked in the UK before and though it would help me see how things are here. So when I was offered that opportunity I was really excited! Yet a bit scared… Continue reading “Sofia’s Taste of Work at USE” »
20 May 2013 - 10:21 am Taste of Work Plus
Taste of Work Plus lasts around one month. I consider this project is a short-term internship. Before starting the internship, I was so glad to receive a ring from Jobshop Coordinator Ailsa Costello and a pre-session arranged by my USE supervisor Ms. Liz Taylor (information officer). Giving more details in advance shows Taste of Work Plus in USE has been well-organised. Continue reading “Taste of Work Plus” »
