17 May 2014 - 11:30 am Upcycling, freecycling, recycling…

Recently I’ve become obsessed with trying to make ‘stuff’ into ‘better stuff’ and generally trying to locate things for free. As students, we love a good freebie, but my obsession is partially to do with the fact that my parter and I are buying our first house, and although we are buying the house we probably aren’t going to have very much money to furnish it with. So we type into Google how to make a cheap table – and thousands of websites appear, showing us how to screw pallets together and paint them and use a washing machine drum, some lights and a big piece of glass or a V8 engine (like we have one of those lying around). In collaboration with RAG and Bummit I’m organising Charity Art Auction 2014 that is the first and one-time only opportunity to purchase original artwork in support of Sheffield charities. Continue reading “Double (Or Even Triple) Feel-Good Effect” »

Since the first time I ever watched an action movie, which I think was ‘True Lies’ by Arnold Schwarzenegger, as a kid I already started fantasising… that one day I would be a secret agent of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), or at least, some sort of computer hacker who decodes discreet messages. Sadly, I am not any where close to becoming such a Hollywood style, all powerful character..However, as a number addict, I have recently come across the RSA public cryptosystem (In simple words, a system commonly used by banks and agents to protect sensitive data) and found it superbly cool and thought provoking! Let me uncover some myths about data encryption, which basically, is a high-tech way of sending secret message, and show you how dull mathematics theories can be transformed into intelligent inventions.
